# Railway MCP server for AI agents.

actionlake is an MCP gateway: one remote MCP server that connects Claude and other MCP clients to Railway and the rest of your systems. It gives your agent 391 Railway actions (162 reads, 164 writes and 65 that wait for a confirmation) and holds the Railway credential itself, so the agent never does. It paces Railway's limits and records every call.

[Connect Railway free](https://actionlake.com/console?start=sandbox) [See pricing](https://actionlake.com/pricing)

100,000 free calls a month. No card, no email, no password: press Start a free sandbox on the next screen and keep the key it shows you.

`claude mcp add --transport http actionlake https://connect.actionlake.com/mcp`

the first call

```
do {
  action: "railway.regions.list",
  intent: "check which Railway account is connected"
}
# List regions · read · 1 upstream call
```

- 391 actions in one signed file
- 162 read look, never change
- 164 write create and update
- 65 wait for a yes destructive, confirmed first

Set up

## Connect Railway in three steps.

1. 01
   ### Add actionlake to Claude.
   Run the command once in Claude Code; its consent page can create a free sandbox: 100,000 calls a month, no card. In the Claude app, add a custom connector with the URL below and paste your key on the consent page. Creating a new sandbox from the Claude app is not yet tested by us.
   `https://connect.actionlake.com/mcp`
2. 02
   ### Connect Railway.
   Bearer token. No consent screen: your agent can connect it for you, but the key then passes through your chat. To keep it out of the model's context, paste it in the console instead. actionlake stores what you paste write-only, sealed under your tenant's key.
   - `api_token` Railway account or workspace token: railway.com/account/tokens (choose 'No workspace' for an account token, or a…
   ```
   account { op: "connections.requirements", service: "railway" }
   # free: exactly what to paste, and what is found for you
   ```
3. 03
   ### Make the first call. Check before a write.
   Ask in plain words; Claude picks the action. Before anything changes, `check` validates the call and prices it, for free.
   ```
   do    { action: "railway.regions.list" }
   # list regions · read · 1 upstream call
   check { action: "railway.volumes.create", input: { … } }
   # free: inputs, permissions, cost and confirmations, nothing sent
   ```

`api_token`

**Limits we pace to**

10 calls a second and 10,000 an hour, per connection

**API covered**

Railway (cloud application platform) API graphql-v2`backboard.railway.com`

Capabilities

## What an AI agent can do in Railway.

391 actions in 1 area. Every one carries its effect, so a key can allow the reads and hold the rest.

- **162** read look, never change
- **164** write create and update
- **65** destructive wait for a confirmation

Top actions

## The Railway API, shaped for agents.

The ids your agent types, what each does, and the one name it shares with other systems. 26 of Railway's 26 action names are shared with at least one other connector, so an agent learns them once.

| Action | What it does | Effect | Same name in |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| `railway.deployments.list` List deployments | Get all deployments | read | `devops.deployment.list` 22 connectors |
| `railway.deployments.get` Get deployment | Find a single deployment | read | `devops.deployment.get` 22 connectors |
| `railway.regions.list` List regions | List available regions | read | `infra.region.list` 16 connectors |
| `railway.volumes.create` Volume create | Create a persistent volume in a project | write | `infra.volume.create` 8 connectors |
| `railway.ssh_public_keys.list` List ssh public keys | Gets SSH public keys | read | `infra.ssh_key.list` 8 connectors |
| `railway.users.me` Get me | Gets the authenticated user. | read | `identity.current_user.get` 307 connectors |
| `railway.api_tokens.create` Api token create | Creates a new API token. | write | `identity.api_key.create` 100 connectors |
| `railway.api_tokens.list` List api tokens | Gets all API tokens for the authenticated user. | read | `identity.api_key.list` 96 connectors |
| `railway.environments.list` List environments | Gets all environments for a project. | read | `devops.environment.list` 24 connectors |
| `railway.ssh_public_keys.create` Ssh public key create | Creates a new SSH public key | write | `infra.ssh_key.create` 6 connectors |
| `railway.environments.create` Environment create | Creates a new environment. | write | `devops.environment.create` 18 connectors |
| `railway.deployments.cancel` Deployment cancel | Cancels a deployment. | destructive | `devops.deployment.cancel` 7 connectors |

Try it

## Prompts to paste into Claude.

Each one names the Railway actions it will call, so you know what it reads and what it changes before you send it.

1. Read read
   Who has access in Railway? List every user and their role.
   calls `railway.project_members.list`
2. Write write
   Volume create in Railway. Show me exactly what you will send before you save it.
   calls `railway.volumes.create`

Governance for Railway

## Destructive actions wait for a yes.

65 Railway actions are destructive. The first 10:

- Deployment cancel `railway.deployments.cancel`
- Volume delete `railway.volumes.delete`
- Ssh public key delete `railway.ssh_public_keys.delete`
- Api token delete `railway.api_tokens.delete`
- Environment delete `railway.environments.delete`
- Notification rule delete `railway.notification_rules.delete`
- Project transfer `railway.projects.transfer`
- Project transfer confirm `railway.projects.transfer_confirm`
- Project transfer initiate `railway.projects.transfer_initiate`
- Environment iac partial transfer `railway.environments.iac_partial_transfer`

A destructive action runs only with `confirm: true`. Under the `human` policy the agent cannot confirm for itself: the run stops until a named person approves, in the console or from a signed link in an email. The cap on a key is refused before the call is sent, never after.

do railway.deployments.cancel confirm_policy: **human**

Deployment cancel?

**intent:** the user asked me to deployment cancel

run suspended · waiting for a named person · key _railway-agent_ cannot confirm itself

In the console, or from an emailed signed link.

a key for this connector

```
account {
  op: "keys.create", name: "railway-agent",
  allowed_actions: ["railway.*"], cap_calls: 2000,
  confirm_policy: "human_for_writes",
  approval_rules: [
    { match: "railway.deployments.cancel", approver: "lead@example.com" },
    { match: "railway.volumes.delete", approver: "lead@example.com" },
    { match: "railway.ssh_public_keys.delete", approver: "lead@example.com" }
  ]
}
```

Illustrative. Scoped to Railway only, capped at 2,000 upstream calls, every write confirmed, and the destructive ones approved by a named person.

Cost

## What Railway costs on actionlake.

Every Railway action is one upstream call, the only thing actionlake bills. Searching, `check`, `cost`, `account` and any call Railway refused with 401, 403, 429 or a 5xx are free. Paid plans start at US$49 a month for 250,000 calls, with overage from US$0.30 down to US$0.18 per 1,000.

- 1 upstream call per action all 391 Railway actions
- 28 actions page each page of a long list is one call
- 149 reads can be cached a cache hit costs nothing
- 100,000 calls a month, free paid plans from US$49 a month for 250,000

Questions

## The Railway MCP server, answered.

**Is there a Railway MCP server for Claude?**

Yes. actionlake is an MCP gateway: a remote MCP server that gives Claude, or another MCP client, 391 Railway actions, through the same eight tools it uses for every other connector. actionlake is independent; it is not made or endorsed by Railway.

**What do I need to connect Railway?**

Railway account or workspace token: railway.com/account/tokens (choose 'No workspace' for an account token, or a…. The free call account { op: "connections.requirements", service: "railway" } lists exactly what to paste.

**Can an AI agent delete or change things in Railway?**

Only if its key allows it, and only with an explicit confirmation. 65 Railway actions are destructive, including deployment cancel, volume delete and ssh public key delete. Each runs only with confirm: true. Under the human confirm policy, or an approval rule on the key, the run waits until a named person approves it.

**Will an AI agent use up my Railway API limit?**

actionlake paces every call to the limits in the Railway service file: 10 calls a second and 10,000 an hour per connection. Repeated reads are answered from cache (149 Railway actions can be), which never reaches Railway.

**What does a Railway action cost?**

One upstream call, the only unit actionlake bills. A list that pages bills one call per page (28 Railway actions page). Cache hits, searches, dry runs and calls Railway refused with 401, 403, 429 or a 5xx are free. The Free plan includes 100,000 calls a month with no card. Paid plans start at US$49 a month for 250,000 calls, with overage from US$0.30 down to US$0.18 per 1,000.

**Which Railway API does it cover?**

The Railway (cloud application platform) API graphql-v2 at backboard.railway.com. It is built from Railway's documentation as read on 23 October 2026. 391 actions in 1 area, each one in the signed service file (version 1.0.0).

**Does actionlake keep my Railway data, and where?**

actionlake processes and stores data in Sydney, Australia; there is no US region yet. Reads may be cached for up to an hour, and a write clears the reads it affects. Each run's request and response is kept, sealed, for your plan's trace window: 1 day on Free, 3 days on Starter, 7 days on Pro, 14 days on Team, 30 days on Business and 30 days on Enterprise. Your Railway credential is sealed under your tenant's key, never logged and never returned. Your traffic is not used to train models.

**Which AI clients can use it?**

Claude Code, tested by us end to end, and the Claude app as a custom connector, tested by us with an existing key. Other MCP clients that support remote servers over Streamable HTTP (MCP revisions 2025-06-18 and 2025-11-25) and OAuth dynamic client registration, or a bearer header, should connect the same way; we have not tested them. Or plain REST, under the same action names.
