# Notion MCP server for AI agents.

actionlake is an MCP gateway: one remote MCP server that connects Claude and other MCP clients to Notion and the rest of your systems. It gives your agent 69 Notion actions (33 reads, 27 writes and 9 that wait for a confirmation) and holds the Notion credential itself, so the agent never does. It paces Notion's limits and records every call.

100,000 free calls a month. No card, no email, no password: press Start a free sandbox on the next screen and keep the key it shows you.

`claude mcp add --transport http actionlake https://connect.actionlake.com/mcp`

the first call

```
do {
  action: "notion.file_uploads.list",
  intent: "check which Notion account is connected"
}
# List file uploads · read · 1 upstream call
```

- 69 actions in one signed file
- 33 read look, never change
- 27 write create and update
- 9 wait for a yes destructive, confirmed first

Set up

## Connect Notion in three steps.

1. 01
   ### Add actionlake to Claude.
   Run the command once in Claude Code; its consent page can create a free sandbox: 100,000 calls a month, no card. In the Claude app, add a custom connector with the URL below and paste your key on the consent page. Creating a new sandbox from the Claude app is not yet tested by us.
   `https://connect.actionlake.com/mcp`
2. 02
   ### Connect Notion.
   Bearer token. No consent screen: your agent can connect it for you, but the key then passes through your chat. To keep it out of the model's context, paste it in the console instead. actionlake stores what you paste write-only, sealed under your tenant's key.
   - `token` Notion integration secret (internal integration token `ntn_...`/`secret_...`, personal access token, or an OAuth…
   ```
   account { op: "connections.requirements", service: "notion" }
   # free: exactly what to paste, and what is found for you
   ```
3. 03
   ### Make the first call. Check before a write.
   Ask in plain words; Claude picks the action. Before anything changes, `check` validates the call and prices it, for free.
   ```
   do    { action: "notion.file_uploads.list" }
   # list file uploads · read · 1 upstream call
   check { action: "notion.comments.create", input: { … } }
   # free: inputs, permissions, cost and confirmations, nothing sent
   ```

Notion's own MCP server

## Notion's MCP server, or actionlake?

Notion runs a remote MCP server at mcp.notion.com, signed in with OAuth; MCP tokens without a browser sign-in are for Business and Enterprise plans.

Use Notion's server when one person wants to work in Notion from their own AI client. Use actionlake when you also want Notion behind the same endpoint as your other systems: a key per agent with allowed actions and a spending cap, a named person's approval before destructive actions, a sealed record of every call, and one ask across Notion and another system.

Top actions

## The Notion API, shaped for agents.

The ids your agent types, what each does, and the one name it shares with other systems. 53 of Notion's 59 action names are shared with at least one other connector, so an agent learns them once.

Try it

## Prompts to paste into Claude.

Each one names the Notion actions it will call, so you know what it reads and what it changes before you send it.

1. Read read
   Which Notion files changed this week, and who changed them?
   calls `notion.file_uploads.list`
2. Plan write
   Upload a file and attach it to a Notion page in Notion.
   calls `notion.pages.get` `notion.file_uploads.create` `notion.file_uploads.get` `notion.file_uploads.complete` `notion.blocks.append_children` +1 more
3. Plan write
   Capture a meeting note and file it under a parent page in Notion.
   calls `notion.users.me` `notion.blocks.create_meeting_note` `notion.blocks.list_children` `notion.blocks.append_children` `notion.comments.create`
4. Write write
   Create comment in Notion. Show me exactly what you will send before you save it.
   calls `notion.comments.create`

The plan store

## Ready-made plans for Notion.

6 plans in the store. Install one and your agent runs it by name; the reply says which connections are still missing. A schedule can run a plan on a timetable. There are no triggers or webhooks, by design.

1. ### Build a weekly digest page of recent workspace activity
   Use it when Someone wants a Monday-morning summary page of what changed in the Notion workspace last week.
   **Effect**

Governance for Notion

## Destructive actions wait for a yes.

9 Notion actions are destructive. These are all of them:

- Delete comment `notion.comments.delete`
- Trash a data source `notion.data_sources.trash`
- Trash a page `notion.pages.trash`
- Trash a database `notion.databases.trash`
- Delete a view `notion.views.delete`
- Delete a block `notion.blocks.delete`
- Cancel a session `notion.sessions.cancel`
- Delete an agent `notion.agents.delete`
- Delete a view query `notion.views.delete_query`

A destructive action runs only with `confirm: true`. Under the `human` policy the agent cannot confirm for itself: the run stops until a named person approves, in the console or from a signed link in an email. The cap on a key is refused before the call is sent, never after.

do notion.comments.delete confirm_policy: **human**

Delete comment?

**intent:** the user asked me to delete comment

run suspended · waiting for a named person · key _notion-agent_ cannot confirm itself

In the console, or from an emailed signed link.

a key for this connector

```
account {
  op: "keys.create", name: "notion-agent",
  allowed_actions: ["notion.*"], cap_calls: 2000,
  confirm_policy: "human_for_writes",
  approval_rules: [
    { match: "notion.comments.delete", approver: "lead@example.com" },
    { match: "notion.data_sources.trash", approver: "lead@example.com" },
    { match: "notion.pages.trash", approver: "lead@example.com" }
  ]
}
```

Illustrative. Scoped to Notion only, capped at 2,000 upstream calls, every write confirmed, and the destructive ones approved by a named person.

Cost

Questions

## The Notion MCP server, answered.

**Is there a Notion MCP server for Claude?**

Yes. actionlake is an MCP gateway: a remote MCP server that gives Claude, or another MCP client, 69 Notion actions across agents, pages, data sources and views, through the same eight tools it uses for every other connector. actionlake is independent; it is not made or endorsed by Notion.

**Does Notion have its own MCP server?**

Notion runs a remote MCP server at mcp.notion.com, signed in with OAuth; MCP tokens without a browser sign-in are for Business and Enterprise plans. (Notion's documentation, checked 22 October 2026.) Use Notion's server when one person wants to work in Notion from their own AI client. Use actionlake when you also want Notion behind the same endpoint as your other systems: a key per agent with allowed actions and a spending cap, a named person's approval before destructive actions, a sealed record of every call, and one ask across Notion and another system.

**What do I need to connect Notion?**

Notion integration secret (internal integration token `ntn_...`/`secret_...`, personal access token, or an OAuth…. The free call account { op: "connections.requirements", service: "notion" } lists exactly what to paste.

**Can an AI agent delete or change things in Notion?**

Only if its key allows it, and only with an explicit confirmation. 9 Notion actions are destructive, including delete comment, trash a data source and trash a page. Each runs only with confirm: true. Under the human confirm policy, or an approval rule on the key, the run waits until a named person approves it.

**Will an AI agent use up my Notion API limit?**

actionlake paces every call to the limits in the Notion service file: 180 calls a minute per connection. Repeated reads are answered from cache (33 Notion actions can be), which never reaches Notion.

**What does a Notion action cost?**

One upstream call, the only unit actionlake bills. A list that pages bills one call per page (69 Notion actions page). Cache hits, searches, dry runs and calls Notion refused with 401, 403, 429 or a 5xx are free. The Free plan includes 100,000 calls a month with no card. Paid plans start at US$49 a month for 250,000 calls, with overage from US$0.30 down to US$0.18 per 1,000.

**Which Notion API does it cover?**

The Notion API 2026-03-11 at api.notion.com. It is built from Notion's documentation as read on 17 September 2026. 69 actions in 13 areas, each one in the signed service file (version 1.0.0).

**Does actionlake keep my Notion data, and where?**

actionlake processes and stores data in Sydney, Australia; there is no US region yet. Reads may be cached for up to an hour, and a write clears the reads it affects. Each run's request and response is kept, sealed, for your plan's trace window: 1 day on Free, 3 days on Starter, 7 days on Pro, 14 days on Team, 30 days on Business and 30 days on Enterprise. Your Notion credential is sealed under your tenant's key, never logged and never returned. Your traffic is not used to train models.

**Which AI clients can use it?**

Claude Code, tested by us end to end, and the Claude app as a custom connector, tested by us with an existing key. Other MCP clients that support remote servers over Streamable HTTP (MCP revisions 2025-06-18 and 2025-11-25) and OAuth dynamic client registration, or a bearer header, should connect the same way; we have not tested them. Or plain REST, under the same action names.
