# Comet Backup MCP server for AI agents.

actionlake is an MCP gateway: one remote MCP server that connects Claude and other MCP clients to Comet Backup and the rest of your systems. It gives your agent 179 Comet Backup actions (91 reads, 62 writes and 26 that wait for a confirmation) and holds the Comet Backup credential itself, so the agent never does. It paces Comet Backup's limits and records every call.

[Connect Comet Backup free](https://actionlake.com/console?start=sandbox) [See pricing](https://actionlake.com/pricing)

100,000 free calls a month. No card, no email, no password: press Start a free sandbox on the next screen and keep the key it shows you.

`claude mcp add --transport http actionlake https://connect.actionlake.com/mcp`

the first call

```
do {
  action: "comet_backup.admin_user.list",
  intent: "check which Comet Backup account is connected"
}
# List administrators · read · 1 upstream call
```

- 179 actions in one signed file
- 91 read look, never change
- 62 write create and update
- 26 wait for a yes destructive, confirmed first

Set up

## Connect Comet Backup in three steps.

1. 01
   ### Add actionlake to Claude.
   Run the command once in Claude Code; its consent page can create a free sandbox: 100,000 calls a month, no card. In the Claude app, add a custom connector with the URL below and paste your key on the consent page. Creating a new sandbox from the Claude app is not yet tested by us.
   `https://connect.actionlake.com/mcp`
2. 02
   ### Connect Comet Backup.
   Header credentials. No consent screen: your agent can connect it for you, but the key then passes through your chat. To keep it out of the model's context, paste it in the console instead. actionlake stores what you paste write-only, sealed under your tenant's key.
   - `username` Comet Server admin username (an account without TOTP/WebAuthn 2FA)
   - `password` Comet Server admin password
   - `host` Where your Comet Backup lives: your host
   ```
   account { op: "connections.requirements", service: "comet_backup" }
   # free: exactly what to paste, and what is found for you
   ```
3. 03
   ### Make the first call. Check before a write.
   Ask in plain words; Claude picks the action. Before anything changes, `check` validates the call and prices it, for free.
   ```
   do    { action: "comet_backup.admin_user.list" }
   # list administrators · read · 1 upstream call
   check { action: "comet_backup.admin.add_user", input: { … } }
   # free: inputs, permissions, cost and confirmations, nothing sent
   ```

Try it

## Prompts to paste into Claude.

Each one names the Comet Backup actions it will call, so you know what it reads and what it changes before you send it.

1. Read read
   Who has access in Comet Backup? List every user and their role.
   calls `comet_backup.admin_user.list`
2. Write write
   Add a new user account in Comet Backup. Show me exactly what you will send before you save it.
   calls `comet_backup.admin.add_user`

Governance for Comet Backup

## Destructive actions wait for a yes.

26 Comet Backup actions are destructive. These are all of them:

- Delete user account `comet_backup.admin.delete_user`
- Remove news item `comet_backup.news.remove`
- Delete a shared storage quota and detach all users `comet_backup.squota.delete`
- Delete an existing policy object `comet_backup.policies.delete`
- Delete an administrator `comet_backup.admin_user.delete`
- Delete an existing user group object `comet_backup.user_groups.delete`
- Revoke device from user account `comet_backup.admin.revoke_device`
- Delete an organization and all related users `comet_backup.organization.delete`
- Delete a bucket `comet_backup.storage.delete_bucket`
- Revoke a session key (log out) `comet_backup.account.session_revoke`
- Prune unused buckets `comet_backup.constellation.prune_now`
- Instruct a live connected device to delete a stored snapshot `comet_backup.dispatcher.delete_snapshot`
- Delete a Protected Item `comet_backup.admin.delete_protected_item`
- Instruct a live connected device to delete multiple stored snapshots `comet_backup.dispatcher.delete_snapshots`

- Cancel a running job `comet_backup.job.cancel`
- Mark a running job as abandoned `comet_backup.job.abandon`
- Restart server `comet_backup.meta.restart_service`
- Shut down server `comet_backup.meta.shutdown_service`
- Disable user account 2FA(TOTP) authentication `comet_backup.admin.disable_user_totp`
- Instruct a live connected device to disconnect `comet_backup.dispatcher.kill_process`
- Add first admin user account on new server `comet_backup.admin.add_first_admin_user`
- Disconnect a live connected device `comet_backup.dispatcher.drop_connection`
- Instruct a live connected device to self-uninstall the software `comet_backup.dispatcher.uninstall_software`
- Revoke a personal API token of the current admin account `comet_backup.account.api_token.revoke`
- Instruct a live connected device to disconnect (installation/dispatch/drop-connection) `comet_backup.installation.dispatch.drop_connection`

A destructive action runs only with `confirm: true`. Under the `human` policy the agent cannot confirm for itself: the run stops until a named person approves, in the console or from a signed link in an email. The cap on a key is refused before the call is sent, never after.

do comet_backup.admin.delete_user confirm_policy: **human**

Delete user account?

**intent:** the user asked me to delete user account

run suspended · waiting for a named person · key _comet-backup-agent_ cannot confirm itself

In the console, or from an emailed signed link.

a key for this connector

```
account {
  op: "keys.create", name: "comet-backup-agent",
  allowed_actions: ["comet_backup.*"], cap_calls: 2000,
  confirm_policy: "human_for_writes",
  approval_rules: [
    { match: "comet_backup.admin.delete_user", approver: "lead@example.com" },
    { match: "comet_backup.news.remove", approver: "lead@example.com" },
    { match: "comet_backup.squota.delete", approver: "lead@example.com" }
  ]
}
```

Illustrative. Scoped to Comet Backup only, capped at 2,000 upstream calls, every write confirmed, and the destructive ones approved by a named person.

Questions

## The Comet Backup MCP server, answered.

**Is there a Comet Backup MCP server for Claude?**

Yes. actionlake is an MCP gateway: a remote MCP server that gives Claude, or another MCP client, 179 Comet Backup actions across dispatcher, admin, meta and account, through the same eight tools it uses for every other connector. actionlake is independent; it is not made or endorsed by Comet Backup.

**What do I need to connect Comet Backup?**

Comet Server admin username (an account without TOTP/WebAuthn 2FA) and Comet Server admin password. Plus your host. The free call account { op: "connections.requirements", service: "comet_backup" } lists exactly what to paste.

**Can an AI agent delete or change things in Comet Backup?**

Only if its key allows it, and only with an explicit confirmation. 26 Comet Backup actions are destructive, including delete user account, remove news item and delete a shared storage quota and detach all users. Each runs only with confirm: true. Under the human confirm policy, or an approval rule on the key, the run waits until a named person approves it.

**Will an AI agent use up my Comet Backup API limit?**

actionlake paces every call to the limits in the Comet Backup service file: 120 calls a minute per connection. Repeated reads are answered from cache (77 Comet Backup actions can be), which never reaches Comet Backup.

**What does a Comet Backup action cost?**

One upstream call, the only unit actionlake bills. A list that pages bills one call per page (179 Comet Backup actions page). Cache hits, searches, dry runs and calls Comet Backup refused with 401, 403, 429 or a 5xx are free. The Free plan includes 100,000 calls a month with no card. Paid plans start at US$49 a month for 250,000 calls, with overage from US$0.30 down to US$0.18 per 1,000.

**Which Comet Backup API does it cover?**

The Comet Server API v1 (admin), as documented at docs.cometbackup.com/latest at your Comet Backup instance's API base URL, which you enter when connecting. It is built from Comet Backup's documentation as read on 23 October 2026. 179 actions in 21 areas, each one in the signed service file (version 1.0.0).

**Does actionlake keep my Comet Backup data, and where?**

actionlake processes and stores data in Sydney, Australia; there is no US region yet. Reads may be cached for up to 5 minutes, and a write clears the reads it affects. Each run's request and response is kept, sealed, for your plan's trace window: 1 day on Free, 3 days on Starter, 7 days on Pro, 14 days on Team, 30 days on Business and 30 days on Enterprise. Your Comet Backup credential is sealed under your tenant's key, never logged and never returned. Your traffic is not used to train models.

**Which AI clients can use it?**

Claude Code, tested by us end to end, and the Claude app as a custom connector, tested by us with an existing key. Other MCP clients that support remote servers over Streamable HTTP (MCP revisions 2025-06-18 and 2025-11-25) and OAuth dynamic client registration, or a bearer header, should connect the same way; we have not tested them. Or plain REST, under the same action names.
